The film THE JOURNEY TO FLORIDA from 2015 was a welcome reunion with the fantastic French actor Jean Rochefort. The film was Jean's first starring role in French film in almost a decade and really gave him the opportunity to show his talent. He played the challenging role of the stubborn old man Claude, whose dementia is taking over more and more of his life. Sandrine Kiberlain plays his daughter Carole, who tries to help Claude through everyday life. Jean Rochefort shines in this role, which turned out to be the last one he would ever play. He sadly passed away in 2017.

The film is very funny, but certainly also has a serious subject and it has received great praise for its way of bringing focus to a difficult topic such as dementia. It is glorious and touching but also a sad story, which brings both a smile on your lip but also a lump in your throat. THE JOURNEY TO FLORIDA is a nostalgic and humorous tribute to life well lived.

The film is based on Florian Zeller's play Le Pére and in 2020 it was remade in English with the title THE FATHER. This time it was Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman who played the leading roles. This remake was nominated for a total of 6 Oscars in 2021 and Anthony Hopkins won for Best Actor and the film won for Best Adapted Screenplay.
