Everyone has probably heard of the world-famous Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli. Since 1982, he has recorded 15 studio albums and held numerous concerts around the world. Andrea Bocelli has been particularly successful in performing a mix of both classical opera and pop music. Long before the Bocelli name became synonymous with opera, the Bocelli family earned a living by producing classic Italian wines on their small estate in Lajatico, Tuscany. The family's farm was founded way back in 1730, and this is where Andrea grew up.
If you are planning a holiday near Pisa in Tuscany, we recommend driving south-east to the town of Pontedera. From here continue south on the idyllic little Tuscan country roads, through the small towns of Forcoli, La Rosa and La Sterza. From La Sterza is only 4 kilometers to the area and the town of Lajatico, a total trip of only about 40 kilometers, which on a hot summer day will be an extra pleasurable ride if you go by a Vespa Scooter.
In this beautiful area lies the Bocelli family country estate, where they still produce lovely classic Italian wines. In this area, you will also find the Teatro del Silenzio, which is Andrea Bocelli's own amphitheater. Bocelli performs concerts here every summer.
In the movie THE MUSIC OF SILENCE, you get the whole story of Andrea Bocelli's long and hard road to fame.
